I love it February 5, 2007 C. Edwards (Austin, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't read Giant before it re-launch in 2006 so I can't make a comparison. I can say that I really like the magazine now. Although it is listed as an Urban Men's magazine I don't see it as being exclusively either. I would in no way compare to Maxim as others have done in other reviews. Borrow a copy and check it out yourself but the current subscription fee is well worth the money.
Exactly like all the other reviewers here say--very sad December 6, 2006 killerpooh (Earth) 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
Originally I reviewed Giant and gave it a lot of stars, praising its nonconformist look at unique aspects of pop culture and mentioning that if its editors ever figured out how really to market the magazine, they'd have a sensation.
Well. Unfortunately, like most of the other reviews here say, the editors changed the magazine, all right, but by far for the worse. Instead of offering us tidbits about the more fascinating corners of pop culture, they've transformed it into a kind of People for the glossy set, focusing more on "urban" aspects which even those who might otherwise be fascinated by "urban pop" (whatever that means) wouldn't bother to consider.
The cheesecake spreads tamer than any in a retail store catalog remain, though. Someone somewhere must have had a cousin who could make them available in bulk to Giant's publishers.
I couldn't imagine the market segment that would be interested in a magazine like this now. A real shame.
R.I.P. the Giant that was.
Giant has become a lame Details knockoff!! September 20, 2006 the_arm (Pittsburgh) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
They took a magazine that was dedicated to the great Geek in all of us and sold its soul to mainstream conformity. I'll be forwarding my subscription to the next yuppie dufus I see.
What happened?!?!? September 11, 2006 Cynthia Brann (Cary, NC USA) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
The previous incarnation of GIANT was a little bit snarky, a little bit poppy, and a lot of interesting and funny reading. This latest issue is garbage. It appears as if they felt the need to get rid of everything interesting and entertaining about the magazine and dumb it down. Who is the "new" audience for this thing?!? I predict it will be eliminated from the newsstands within the next 6 months.
Giant Magazine changed for the Worse July 27, 2006 Aaron Empsall 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Someone ruined my favorite Magazine. I feel ripped off. I subscribed to Giant Magazine a few issues back because I loved it, and now this new incarnate is so horribly boring and mundane that I want to cancel my subscription. It's that bad. I'm talking worse than Maxim or Cargo even. It's just like Cosmo for men or something. There wasn't one interesting thing about the new one. I used to spend hours reading it from cover to back. I think it took me 1 minute exactly flipping thought it the first time, and then I tried again, and went page by page and found nothing interesting at all.
