Good stuff November 10, 2008 B. Tan This item was given as a gift to a special friend who loves RHCP, and it was very well received!
Ireland Welcomes Back The Peppers In A Unforgetable Concert November 5, 2008 Corey Turner (NH) Red Hot Chili Peppers have been around for over twenty years now, it's hard to believe they are almost old enough to be in the rock hall of fame. Most bands wither apart after years of fame and success. RHCP have become an even tighter pact. "Live At Slane Castle" is an unforgettably powerful live concert. From the intense camera angles and fluidity between these funkafied vets, you're getting your moneys worth. The song selection is top notch. Released before "Stadium Arcadium", RHCP displays mainly "Californication" era material and "Bye The way" (which at the time was their newest release). Two songs from the classic "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" (RHCP's fifth studio release) make an appearance too. Those being "Give it Away" and "Under The Bridge" both relatively big RHCP hits. The ideal musicianship for modern day rock acts is diminishing, you'd never guess with these guys. Improvising has always played a part in the bands live acts, watch as they unfold a jam without missing a beat. Flea and Chad jamming, trumpet and drum. Everything feels top notch here, the menus aren't gimmicky, the sound quality is top notch, they caught the band in an amazing performance, and best of all it's almost 2 hours (well just shy as it's about an hour and forty-two minutes). The atmosphere and crowd is astounding. Take a look at the cover and tell me you can't estimate the proportions of such a concert. The background effects are interesting, and a cover of the Ramones track "Havana Affair" even comes into play here. Only gripe if any is that it has to end. "Soul to Squeeze" was removed from the footage due to the guitarist (John Frusciante) breaking a string. Another interesting fact, this is RHCP's second time performing at Slane castle, once before in 2001. Really can't trump this card, RHCP have made one of the best live performances of all time.
Outstanding October 30, 2008 Michael R. Mitola Outstanding!!!!!!I was never a big RHCP fan, but after watching this DVD for the 75th time in a row because of how good it is, I highly reccomend this. John Frusciante might be the best guitarist around today, his solo during "Dont Forget Me" at the 55 minute mark, is the best minute of guitar playing Ive heard in decades, wish it would have lasted longer!!! This DVD is a must buy!
Essential for Any RHCP Fan April 15, 2008 Joseph C. Neumann (NAB, Alaska, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This DVD is simply amazing. It contains the band's live performance at Slane Castle in Ireland, their first concert series after the release of "By the Way." In the concert they perform the bulk of their songs from both "By the Way" and "Californication." They also do a cover of a Ramone's song, "Havana Affair." Between songs the band jams out and even does a couple of other covers, including the timeless "Maybe." Flea even gets a little of the spotlight for himself with a Trumpet solo during the encore. The band finishes up the concert with three hits off "Blood Sugar Sex Magik:" "Give it Away," "Under the Bridge," and "Power of Equality." They also perform "Californication" during their encore at the end of the DVD. If you remotely enjoyed any of the albums or songs mentioned here, you will forever be pleased by watching this timeless performance of one of the greatest bands of the alternative era.
Buy it. April 4, 2008 ensemble (South Alabama) I'm someone who is mostly stuck in 70's music - but these guys remind me of the great 70's bands with their own style and energy. Not so long ago a local radio station that plays mostly 70's and 80's songs played "Otherside" a few times, and I thought: damn, who are these guys? After listening to their to their body of work, I was hooked. This video is a great live summary of their work up to '03. Buy it.
