Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
Squint at the cover of Circus and it's easy to mistake Britney Spears for the flow-haired Jessica Simpson--an indication that the bold come-ons of 2007's Blackout, a commercial success but a critical letdown, may have given way to something softer and prettier. Don’t be fooled. Circus differs from Blackout in a number of ways, the most important being that 1) it keeps its ringmasters--i.e., its producers--in check instead of allowing them to run an overly sleek show, and 2) Brit brings it vocally here in a way she hasn’t since 2003’s In the Zone (check "Kill the Lights," on which she channels her mentor Madonna and the liquid-y "Blur"). Beyond that, Circus is, as its title promises, a Blackout-like spectacle. Which is not to say the songs being made under this particular big top aren't top quality. Those who pine for the pre-trainwreck Britney will warm to the suggestive but not outright slutty "Mmm Papi," and anyone who can't get enough of the embattled publicity magnet will eat up "Womanizer" and the title track. Spears--let's be honest--lacks acrobatic grace, at least under tabloid scrutiny. What's great about Circus is it proves she's still willing to jump through hoops to make likable, stylish music. --Tammy La Gorce

Album Description
The Britney Spears "Circus" deluxe version includes a bonus DVD that features The Making Of Circus, the Womanizer music video and a special photo gallery. The deluxe version also includes a special collector's two sided poster.

Album Description
Deluxe edition include DVD. Circus is the seventh album by Britney Spears. It rolls into town on the heels of an MTV VMA awards sweep, where Britney walked away with three Moonmen awards for 'Video of the Year', 'Best Female' and 'Best Pop Video' for 'Piece Of Me'. Circus is the follow up to her critically well received album, Blackout, just in in time for her 27th birthday. The lead single, 'Womanizer' (produced by the up and coming Atlanta production team The Outsyders) has already created a frenzy amongst Britney fantaics, radio and the media alike-underscoring Britney's continued reign as one of the Queens of Pop.

5 out of 5 stars Love Britney!   December 31, 2008
S. Miller (Denver,CO)
As soon as I got my CD I listened all the way through and was very happy! I liked every single track and it made me proud to be a fan. Setting her personal life aside, she is a great performer no matter what anyone says. I hope she keeps this up and continues on the right track and steals the spotlight once again!

3 out of 5 stars The Circus Is Back In Town   December 30, 2008
Bryan A. Pfleeger (Metairie, Louisiana United States)
Say what you will about Britney Spears' career and personality but you must admit that she makes catchy music. Circus does not disappoint. The album moves smoothly from pop dance numbers (Womanizer,Shattered Glass,If You Seek Amy, MMM Papi) to soulful ballads (Out from Under,My Baby). This is easily Ms.Spears best record in more than a few years and with the public spectacle that her recent lfe has become she really deserves the good press that will be generated by this record.

The Deluxe Edition features a bonus disc that contains a 10 minute making of the Circus album featuring interview segments about working with various producers and the importance of dance in her life. Also included is the director's cut of the video Womanizer and a very short photo gallery.

This album is worth checking out.

4 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect   December 28, 2008
Paulo Simoes (Portugal)
After a bad year in her life and in her career, she's back!!!

Ok, she's not the best singer in the world, like mariah, whitney, celine, but she can make real good music, she's like the next queen of dance..

Circus is a very good album, but in my opinion is not better than "BLACKOUT".
The only problem here is the filler, like "my baby" or "mmmpapi" or "rock in me"..

The highlights includes the first single womanizer- wow (great!)
And the second single- Circus, altough i think that are so much better songs in here like "if u seek amy" "kill the lights" "shattered glass" and the best song in my opinion is "Phonography"- only available in deluxe edition.

If she promote the album and choose the perfect singles, the sales of the album will be huge, unless she marries again like mariah carey did and her carrer is over... :-) (i still don't understand what happenned to mariah's last album...)

Love, paulo

4 out of 5 stars Pop Princess still reigns...   December 27, 2008
ChicBookFiend (MA)
This is the first time I buy a Britney album. To me, Britney Spears is an entertainer. Nothing more, nothing less. She has a so-so voice and mediocre acting skills. But she sure can move onstage! She is also the tabloid's favorite punching bag. If she isn't involved in a scandal, then they will make one up. But in 2007 and 2008, there was no need to invent stories about her. After a plethora of controversy and scandals involving her very public divorce, her even more public child custody battles, struggles with depression and alleged nervous breakdown that included shaving her head and attacking the paparazzi, drug use, weight gain, and on-again/off-again stays at rehab and mental hospitals, gossip rags had a field day with her. And when she made her disastrous "comeback" at 2007's VMAs, everyone thought it was only a matter of time before the Pop Princess was dethroned. I am just as surprised as everyone else that Britney has made a long-overdue victorious return with a hot bod, a new positive attitude and a kickass new album.

I absolutely love Circus! By far, the best pop album of the year, surpassing the releases of Beyonce and Mariah Carey, two favorites of mine. My iPod must have her songs memorized, because this is the album I choose whenever I go to the gym. They set your heartbeat going as you listen to the rather personal lyrics. (Some would go as far as to say that the album is somewhat autobiographical.) Here's my take on each track.

Womanizer (4.5) -- One of my favorites. A very strong intro that gets you moving!

Circus (5) -- Great track! Britney compares her public life with that of a circus. Clever lyrics mixed with an infectious beat. Gotta love that!

Out from Under (3.5) -- Nice midtempo track. Her vocals sound nice in this one.

Kill the Lights (3) -- Another song centered on her public life. This is Britney's way of flipping the finger to the paparazzi and the people who hate her (not that she hasn't already done that!).

Shattered Glass (3) -- Cool dance song with awesome beat.

If U Seek Amy (2) -- Ick! I totally don't get this song. The intro beat is almost identical to Shattered Glass. Not one of my favorites.

Unusual You (3) -- A midtempo track about a woman's low romantic expectations and how surprised she is that her new guy is the real deal. I like the lyrics.

Blur (3.5) -- This seems to be a very personal song for Britney. It talks about a woman who has no recollection of what she had done the night before. It seems to focus on her drug and alcohol addiction. Very interesting.

Mmm Papi (4) -- Hee! I like this song! It's fun and naughty. Classic Britney.

Mannequin (1.5) -- Don't like this song all that much. It's more filler than anything.

Lace and Leather (5) -- My favorite song in the entire album. I love the beat, love the naughty lyrics. This song wouldn't have been out of place in Madonna's Hard Candy album, which I also own.

My Baby (4.5) -- An odd follow-up to Lace and Leather, but a beautiful song about her children. Britney's syrupy vocals sound vulnerable and beautiful here.

Radar (1) -- Eew. I hate this song. Wasn't this in Blackout?

Rock Me In (2.5) -- Good bonus track.

Phonography (4) -- I love this one as well. Great beat!

So there you have it. Britney Spears isn't ready to hand over her crown just yet. And if she's able to hold on to her new looks and overall pop princess image, it wouldn't surprise me if she survives another decade in the spotlight. In the meantime, I cannot recommend Circus enough.
