Have Spanish version 3 level 1,2&3 installed on a Vista laptop and it works well. The program uses repetition of words matched to pictures to reinforce learning. I like the feature of being able to speak into the system to test your accent. The software will let you know if your accent matches what it believes is correct. The program starts off easy but quickly becomes harder as you move through the different lessons. The key thing to remember is that learning any language takes time and a lot of work. To think that you are just going to go through the program without a lot of effort and learn a language would be incorrect.
The program is very expensive but seems to work well and if you are interested in learning another language it is a valid option.

Rosetta Stone calls their language method Dynamic Immersion. Vocabulary is introduced to you through pictures and word associations and the grammar is introduced the same way along with more pictures. The program also works on your pronunciation skills with their system of speech recognition. You listen to words and phrases and write them down or practice staying them. The program also focuses on sounds common to Spanish, further improving how you sound when you speak.
The program is very easy to use and it's very intuitive. I had two semesters of Spanish in high school and though I've only been using Rosetta stone for a month, I feel like I've already surpassed what I learned there. I like the way the program shows you four images at once and lets you figure out which picture goes with what you're hearing. It's pretty easy and it seems to burn the words and phrases into your memory.
If I stick with this program, and I plan to, then I imagine I'll be speaking Spanish in record time and wouldn't that be something if Rosetta Stone succeeded where my high school failed.

I've been using Rosetta Stone for about a month now and I have to say that it really does simplify learning a language. Actually, it teaches you like you learned your crib language. Well, not quite, but it tries, sort of.
There are no English words in these lessons, you learn your new language by associating words in your new language you don't know (yet) with photos of things you know. The new word for run with the spoken phrase, pictured with a boy running for example.
You learn through Rosetta Stone's speech recognition system. You work on reading and pronouncing your new words and you get feedback immediately, which helps to make the new language sink in.
Rosetta Stone calls their learning method Dynamic Immersion and it seems to work. At least it's working for me, in two languages.

I have been very curious about Rosetta Stone language teaching program. You saw their commercials everywhere, from airline magazines to TV ads, and wonder if it really works. After several lessons, I can say that it works! Like everything else, you need to invest time and patience, but if you can't learn from Rosetta Stone, you need a human teacher or you just don't have aptitude for learning a second language. IMHO, Rosetta Stone is among the top language learning software out there. If you can't take a live class, then Rosetta Stone is for you.
The software comes with both Windows and Mac, which is a pleasant surprise. It installed and run on my Mac without any issues. The package included language learning software and 3 levels of Spanish language. It even includes a high quality headset and microphone so you can learn without bothering other people. There are 3 audio companion disks to aid with learning. The whole thing took about 15 minutes to install. I installed all 3 levels. You can select different goals: read, write, speak and listen or just to read and write. I selected the whole thing: read, write, speak and listen.
Now for the lesson part. Rosetta Stone uses a natural learning method, which associates spoken and written words with images so it is very different from other software. No English was spoken, you have to work at guessing the words at first, but then it becomes easier as you build up vocabulary. First, you match text to an images (reading), then you have to pronounce the words for each image (speaking). The last part for hearing, you select the correct image as the software pronounces it. The sentences get more complex as you progress through lessons. The images used in the software are very nice and high quality.
At the end of each lesson, there is sort of a quiz to review what you learned. Each lesson is also short enough, about 30 minutes, so you don't have to worry about forgetting what you learned. After each lesson, there is a pronunciation part to help you speak correctly,
*You* are still the key to learning a new language. Without commitment, no software or teacher in the world can help you with it. But if you really want to learn and can't get to a live class, Rosetta Stone is the best option.

I really enjoyed my Spanish classes in school 40+ years ago and I had frequent fleeting thoughts that I would like to refresh my memory. Then along came Rosetta Stone. Everything I needed is in the box: software, audio CDs so I can practice hearing and speaking away from the computer, and even a headset with microphone. The software installed quickly and easily.
Now I'm enjoying learning Spanish all over again, except it's more fun this time. It's also more intuitive with Rosetta Stone. In school, I began with the boring task of memorizing frequently used words, colors and numbers, and grammar rules. With Rosetta Stone, I'm learning Spanish the same way I learned my first language -- by hearing, speaking, using words in sentences and stories, and matching words with pictures. I expect the Rosetta way to stay with me better than rote memorization.
As you go through your lessons, your work is scored so you can tell how well your're doing. You can repeat lessons as often as you need to until you're satisfied with your progress. You also get periodic reviews of previous lessons.
With the included audio CDs, you can practice anytime, even when you don't have time to sit at your computer. Use them while driving, gardening or cleaning house.
The packaging says Rosetta Stone is addictive, and it really is. That's because it's fun, so much fun I want to keep going long after I really need to tear myself away from the computer.
