Amazon.com Product Description
Increase mobile productivity and get better integrated mobile business performance with the Samsung SCH-i760, which is powered by the Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system for a familiar office experience and the ability to read and edit in applications such as Word or Excel as well as review Powerpoint presentations. You can also receive Outlook email, update your contacts and calendar, and stay securely connected with your office via Wireless Sync or ActiveSync. You'll be productive wherever you roam thanks to the integrated Wi-Fi connectivity for use at wireless hotspots and access to Verizon's BroadbandAccess Connect service (which lets you use your phone as a modem to your laptop).

Styled for performance, the i760 features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard on the side and a stylus for quick and easy navigation on the large 2.8-inch touchscreen. Other features include a 1.3-megapixel camera/camcorder with flash, Bluetooth connectivity with stereo music streaming, MicroSD memory expansion, and speakerphone.

Loaded with communication options, the Samsung i760 offers EV-DO, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity.

The slide-out QWERTY keyboard makes it easy to compose emails, edit Word and Excel documents, and send instant messages via MSN Messenger.

Verizon Service Options
With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon's multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) This smartphone also is compatible with the following additional Verizon services:

  • Verizon's Wireless Sync always-on email service, you can stay connected and get the job done while away from the office--without a delay and in a secure environment. Email is delivered to your device in real time across the National Enhanced Services Rate & Coverage Area, and you get the ability to forward large attachments via email as well as access both your personal and corporate emails on one device. Wireless Sync offers strong security with AES encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard) technology so that unauthorized parties cannot access or alter application data transmitted over wireless networks.
  • With BroadbandAccess Connect, you can use your smartphone as a modem for your notebook when you connect the two using a USB cable--or open a Bluetooth connection--enabling you to access the Internet or your company intranet. The tethered modem capability is ideal when you're traveling and need to use your notebook to check email, access corporate networks, or download large files like presentations and reports. And with BroadbandAccess Connect, you won't have to buy an extra PC Card or other devices.

Phone Features
The successor to Samsung's i730 PDA phone, the i760 continues its predecessor's slide-out full QWERTY keyboard--but now it slides out to the side and provides a larger typing area. The phone's numeric keypad also offers a unique design, with the navigation scroll wheel placed at the bottom left (with soft keys placed above) and the numeric keys tilted at an angle on the right side. The large 2.8-inch touchscreen has a 240 x 320-pixel resolution with support for 65K colors, and it offers portrait and landscape orientation. The screen also features up to 17 lines of dynamically-sized text and adjustable backlight settings.

With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. Powered by Windows Mobile 6

Windows Mobile 6 adds power to your mobile office with up-to-date e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization of Outlook calendars.

Edit Word documents and Excel spreadsheets on your phone, just as you would on your desktop/laptop PC.
Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 updates the Windows Mobile 5 platform with a number of handy features that make searching through email, editing Microsoft Office documents, and staying on top of your most important communications even easier. Emails can now be viewed in their original rich HTML format and now offer the ability to visit embedded links. It also includes Windows Live for Windows Mobile, which provides a full set of Windows Live services, such as the Windows Live Messenger IM application, which now enables you to chat with more than one person at one time or send a file. This device runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional, which is designed for smartphones with touchscreens

With Windows Mobile 6, your phone will finally be able to emulate the power and features of your PC's Microsoft Office suite. You'll be able to neatly view, navigate and edit Word documents and Excel spreadsheets in their original formatting--without affecting tables, images or text--as well as view PowerPoint presentations.

  • Microsoft Office Word Mobile features include spell-check, Find and Replace commands, bulleted lists, text formatting, and support for tables for the first time.
  • With Excel Mobile, you're not just confined to editing charts: with the new Chart Wizard you can create charts quickly and easily.
  • PowerPoint Mobile allows you to view the full presentation, rehearse timings, check the order and any live links you may have in your presentation. You can then email comments back to the team or communicate via MSN Messenger for an immediate response.
  • After creating or editing a Word document or Excel spreadsheet, you can synchronize it with your PC and it will automatically be converted to the PC version.

All Windows Mobile 6 powered devices include Direct Push Technology for up-to-date e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization of Outlook calendars, tasks and contacts through Microsoft Exchange Server. It also offers a set of important device security and management features that include the capability to remotely wipe all data from a device should it be lost or stolen, helping ensure that confidential information remains that way.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible Phone/ Not for someone who needs a workhorse   July 10, 2008
Mark Twain (Los Angeles, CA USA)

I wonder if I am reviewing the same phone as those that gave this phone a 4* or 5*. Or perhaps the people who rated it so high do not use it as a workhorse or for business and personal use OR perhaps I got a bad phone and so did my other friends and collegues who have this same phone and absolutely HATE it.

I have had this phone since December and lived with the irritations at first, now they are just unberable and I am looking to make a change. If anyone has any suggestions, please post!

Anyhow, my phone locks up at least 5 times a day. I go to use it and guess what, no phone, it's just locked up. So, in order to make a call, I must reset the phone. which by resetting the phone it clears out of my information that has been stored by my IT department at work in order for me to properly receive emails from work. so I have to go in at least 5 times a day reset the phone and then set up all my email notification syncing stuff again. I have gotten to the point where it's just too much of a hassle, I go in through the internet and get my email now.

when I text it sends my messages before I am done typing. Nice feature for those who want to send out half completed messages.

The phone gets horrible reception, for example, I am at my pool, I get zero bars, no reception. I turn to my other friends with Verizon and they have 4 bars on their regular phones.

I could go on and on and give you many reasons why I absoutely would never recommend this phone, it's a nightmare. I use my phones like a workhorse and expect them to perform up to par. this phone is just badddd.

1 out of 5 stars Great when it works...   June 14, 2008

I have now had 4 of these phones in just a few months as they all suddenly stop working in the following way. They work fine for a while and then get no coverage in moderate zones and poor coverage in very strong coverage zones. The rest of the phone/PDA functionality works but for whatever reason, the radio seems to loose strength. I have now switched to a VX6800 as I need a reliable phone so we will see how that goes. Given my experience with this phone model, I would strongly recommend against it. Too bad as it is a cool and well made device with lots of great features other than reliability. In context, I have had lots of different smartphones (TREO 600, TREO 650, Blackjack, various BlackBerrys...). If this phone would keep working, I would really like it. So far I can say that the keyboard on the VX6800 is better but the physical device quality and screen are not as good. The other downside to these slider phones is that they are really hard to use with one hand so if you walk through airports trying to do your e-mail, I would stick with a candy bar style device like a Blackjack, Moto Q, or Blackberry.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Phone   June 4, 2008

I have been running this phone since it was first released by Verizon. The only problem I have ever had was with the digital clock that is on the desktop. It has a memory leak that will lead to your phone crashing. If you search the internet you can disable this feature entirely on your phone so that you no longer have to worry about it.

I have also been very impressed with its battery life compared to its predecessor the i730. The i730 was lucky to get 2 days of battery life even with the extended mega battery. This phone can go a week with its normal battery and easily more than that with its extended battery that is a few millimeters thicker.

If you buy this phone be prepared to buy a new sync cable from amazon that will allow you to sync and charge through USB as the cable that it ships with cannot support this. I believe Verizon was trying to prevent people from tethering with this phone.

1 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE DESIGN   May 15, 2008
Turbo Caller (Silicon Valley)
3 out of 5 found this review helpful

This is the most horribly designed phone I have ever used. There is literally no solid way to answer the phone without disconnecting a call. As you can see from any photo of this phone, the green connect button is directly across from the red disconnect button, and these buttons are not on the TOP of the phone, they're on the SIDES! So if you hold the phone like any normal person would hold a phone, you disconnect the call as you answer it if one of your fingers is even slightly touching the red disconnect button. You can't apply pressure to the green button to answer the call because this is the place you push the top panel off the bottom panel to reveal the keyboard. If you push too hard, you snap open the keyboard and disconnect your call and risk dropping the phone because it's now too wide to hold in your hand. Also, you cannot touch anything on this phone without it beeping at you! There are multiple buttons on the right side of the panels which is where your fingers go to hold the stupid thing, so you literally can't touch it without launching something and pressing, pressing, pressing to get back to where you want to be. Horrible design and not a good option for a busy professional who needs to call and answer quickly.

1 out of 5 stars worst phone experience in my life   May 8, 2008

this product represents the worst phone experience in my life !!! I won't belabor too much time on this since I've wasted so much already.
1. bought the phone, took 1.5 hours to get through that process, guess what, the internet feature wasn't turned on so none of the email and tehtering functions worked.
2. day 2 at Verizon, spent 3.0 hours and the result was:
a. still could not get access to my emails to work (simple outlook email through AT&T DSL). tried wirless synch, EZ synch, and nothing. rebooted the phone, reloaded my contacts and still no email functionality.
b. promised the tethering was just a slip the CD in and viola it work work. WRONG !!! it didn't work.

you ask yourself, maybe the wrong persons were trying to help me. Nope, I had both of the senior managers trying to make this work, the SAMSUNG guy happened to also be there and he didn't know what to do, tech support calls to Verizon and Samsung did not address the solution.

the only reason my 3.0 hour session stopped at 3 hours, was I had to leave to go out of town. they wanted me to go anyway, because there isn't any technical service or expertise at these stores anyways.

worst phone exprience in my life, bar none !!!!
bob, San Jose CA, May 4th and 5th, 2008
